You are the only God who could build an ocean
You are the only God who is here right now
You are the only path that can lead to Heaven
You are the only One who can save me from Hell
and I am here to tell You loud and clear
i’m not gonna bend my knee to anybody but you
i’m not gonna bend my knee, oh no
i’m not gonna bend my knee
i answer only to You
i’m not gonna bend my knee
to anybody but You
You are the only God who can fix the broken
You are the only One who can heal my hurts
You are the only Love free of all conditions
You are the only One who deserves my life
and i am here to tell You loud and clear
repeat chorus
You are the only One who is wholly Holy.
You are the only Power that can change my heart.
You are the only God i will praise forever
You are the only God i will worhip now.

repeat chorus
You are Creator and King

I will not bend my knee
To anybody but

in the winter of 1999, while fishing with my dad and grandfather in the florida keys, a song began bouncing around in my head. on that expansive blue canvas, the first line practically wrote itself: You are the only God who can build an ocean. when we docked the boat and returned to the house, I drove my grandparents crazy pounding out this little song on their old white piano. the chorus idea came from a series of doug pagitt teachings.
musically, this one didn’t hit its stride until the night we recorded it for the student impact “alive” CD. it had always been a rather tame mid-tempo pop song, but on this night, it grew into a huge gospel-rock celebration.
In the summer of 2006, the Mars Hill drummers and I drove around the lake to lead worship at Willow Creek. We brought one guitar and a bunch of buckets, boxes, cans, and junk to bang on. It was a really fun night and ended up being quite a moving worship experience. This was the first song...
