You invented life
breathed into our souls
hid Yourself inside
somehow we still know
somehow we still know
You infuse all life
wrap Your arms around
so much has been lost
say it can be found
say we can be found
perfect are
the good desires
You have given me
be their end
as You have been
their beginning
when You inhabit life
we become ourselves
help us love Your light
throwing off all else
throwing off all else
repeat chorus
who have You made me to be?
who have You made me to be?
who have You made me to be?
i will
repeat chorus
who have You made me to be?
who have You made me to be?
who have You made me to be?
i will

this may be the most personal song on the album. the chorus is from an old celtic prayer, and the verses are my attempt to flesh it out. but for me, the question “who have You made me to be?” comes out of the deepest place I know how to dig to. it truly is the question that so much of my life is searching and raging to answer. and like this song, it begins with a tender, introspective whisper, but builds to thunderous cry.
Despite my own deep connection to it, as a Sunday morning worship song, it didn’t work the couple times we tried it. (to be fair, a few people called it their favorite song yet, but most just sat there in confused silence.)
musically, I’ve always hoped that it’d feel like something from Radiohead’s OKComputer.
